Senator Mary Landrieu
Friends of Mary Landrieu hired Blackrock Associates to manage the online operations for the most heavily targeted Democratic Senate seat of the 2008 cycle. In the aftermath of the 2005 hurricanes that devastated the state's coastal regions, building a wide base of online support throughout the state took on added importance, so Blackrock placed added emphasis on list building: we collected data from numerous political allies, conducted list swaps with the Louisiana Democratic Party and DCCC, and purchased a large number of voter file records in the state.
Coupled with advocacy campaigns focused on hurricane-related issues, we were able to quadruple the campaign's email list and create the largest Democratic email database in state history. This list helped us raise hundreds of thousands of dollars online for the moderate Democrat, target fundraising event and GOTV messages geographically, and manage social networking profiles to spread her message of "fighting and winning for Louisiana" through all available communications channels.
